Why people call James.

Three things that come up again and again in his Google reviews.

He looks before he quotes

James comes out, checks the ground and suggests options before putting a price on it.

“He was very professional in his approach and suggested ideas that we had not considered.”dawn Quincey

No pressure, no chasing

Customers mention being left to decide in their own time.

“There was never any pressure or chase up calls from James - we called him.”dawn Quincey

The site is left tidy

Rubbish cleared and the area swept, day by day.

“Did an amazing job with block paving and a drop kerb. They cleaned up every day and removed all rubbish.”Lisa Jarvis

Start with the ground, not the colour

A new driveway has to work as an entrance as well as a place to park. Before choosing a block or border, think about how cars turn, where people walk and whether the front door stays easy to reach with the car parked. A photo can show the style you like, but it can't show the ground underneath.

For a Mansfield home, a useful first conversation covers the current surface, how many cars you have and whether you want to keep some front garden. Tell James about drains, inspection covers, steps and narrow access. If the drive slopes towards the house or the pavement, mention it: the quote should explain how levels and drainage work together.

Driveway surfaces and services in Mansfield

Most Mansfield homes choose between a few surfaces. Each has its own page with real PaveForce photos and an honest comparison.

What a driveway quote should list

Compare what is being done, not just the total. Two quotes can describe different depths of dig, different waste arrangements or a different build underneath. Ask each firm to set out what is included, and what happens if the ground needs more work.

Part of the quoteWhat to ask for in writing
GroundworkHow much is dug out, how deep, and what happens to the spoil.
Sub-baseThe material and compacted depth, matched to the vehicles that will use it.
Surface and edgingThe exact block or finish, colour, laying pattern and the edge restraint.
DrainageWhere the water goes: falls, channels, permeable build or a soakaway.
Waste and making goodRemoval of the old surface and how the edges meet the pavement and garden.
Payment and VATA written total, whether VAT applies and when each payment is due.
Council permissionsWho applies for what, and which approvals are needed before work starts.
Programme and handoverExpected working days, what happens if it rains, and when you can drive on it.

If an item is unclear, ask before you accept. Keep the agreed specification and any changes together, so there is one written record of the job.

Planning

Front gardens in Mansfield

Mansfield District Council handles planning. The Planning Portal sets the national rule for front gardens: permeable surfaces, or ones that drain to a lawn or border, usually don't need permission. Larger hard surfaces draining to the road usually do.

Dropped kerbs

Nottinghamshire County Council

A dropped kerb changes the pavement outside your house, so it needs the county council's approval, not just a driveway quote. The council explains that road type affects whether planning permission is needed too.

Your questions, answered

Who handles dropped kerbs in Mansfield?

Nottinghamshire County Council. Its dropped kerb guidance explains that the type of road affects whether you also need planning permission. James can quote the kerb and the driveway together.

Will a new driveway in Mansfield need planning permission?

For a front garden, the Planning Portal says a permeable surface, or one that drains to a lawn or border, usually doesn't. More than five square metres of hard surface that drains to the road usually does. Check your property with Mansfield District Council if it has conditions or restrictions.

What should a driveway quote include?

Groundwork, sub-base, the surface and edging, drainage, waste, VAT, any council permissions and the expected working days. The table on this page lists what to ask for.

Can the driveway and dropped kerb be done together?

Yes. Choose Dropped kerb in the quote tool and mention the driveway. The council approval for the kerb comes first.

Do you lay resin and tarmac driveways in Mansfield as well as block paving?

Yes. James lays block paving, resin and tarmac driveways, patios and dropped kerbs around Mansfield. Each surface has its own page with photos, and you can ask for two surfaces to be compared in the same quote.

Are the photos on this site real?

Yes. The project photos are PaveForce jobs from James's own library, not stock images.

Do I need to give my phone number to get a quote?

No. The quote tool asks for the job, your town, timing and first name. You read the message, then send it by WhatsApp or email yourself, or just call.
